CHAPTER ELEVEN
SHE AWOKE THE NEXT MORNING, her body aching in all those delightful ways. The sun filtered in the closed curtains, creating a halo effect at the window. Sawyer snoozed on his side beside her, the sheet having slipped to reveal that hard, chiseled chest she’d palmed with abandon.
Who would have ever known lovemaking could have been like this? Sweet. Special. Tender. Yet at the same time mind-blowing and hot. That old cliché “it had never been like this” held true.
“You awake?” Sawyer mumbled.
“Yep,” she said, sliding out of his grasp and heading into the bathroom. As much as she’d love to stay in bed all day, they’d already indulged too long. If she didn’t get ready, they’d miss the start of the race. They’d made promises to people they’d be there, and those were commitments she kept.
Not that the race was that important, she realized as she showered. While she loved stock car racing, and the high-banked oval at Dover provided some of the best action, hands-down Sawyer was more important. She’d never felt so connected to a man in every way possible.
She had no regrets. That was the most important thing she discovered about herself as she shampooed her hair and rinsed. If she and Sawyer walked out of the hotel room and broke up immediately, she’d have had another night of absolute perfection. The reality had far surpassed any fantasy she’d ever woven.
Not that she expected anything to go wrong. If anything, last night had bonded them even closer, cemented them as a couple. As she stepped out of the shower she could already hear Sawyer stirring in the room beyond. He’d also have to shower and dress.
She wrapped a towel around herself and poked her head out. “I’m just about done here.”
Sawyer loomed on the other side of the door. He pushed it open and entered. “I’m nowhere near done,” he said, dropping a kiss on her lips and reaching for her towel.
